Welcome to Apichat!

So what's this all about you ask? Are there not enough forums and chat rooms out there already promoting and discussing the pros and cons of beekeeping while giving all kinds of suggestions, tips, and advice? There certainly are many around, offering all kinds of advice and comment on many aspects of beekeeping, some good, some not so much! What is not out there is a forum to discuss beekeeping's place and impact in the natural environment. With species losses at mind blowing levels, as beekeepers we must recognise that beekeeping has a significant impact on the natural environment, even a couple of garden hives. Our beekeeping practices must move forward in a much more responsible and sustainable manner.

Species loss and environmental degradation is the result of our 'have it all now' material world and it's thoughtless drive to boost economies and bank balances. We've all reaped the benefits, but now we must acknowledge the cost, and make reparation, and we must do this ourselves. There is no point in waiting for the authorities or the plethora of 'environmental' organisations and experts that have been around for decades making fortunes and glittering careers, while achieving absolutely nothing. Neither can we point the finger at others who blatantly poison and destroy the countryside while we fail to recognise our own contribution. It's time to get our beekeeping house in order.

Agree, disagree, have another opinion? The questions you don't ask are the ones everyone else want to ask, and the comment you don't make are the ones everyone else need to hear. Have your say!

Just because we can, doesn't mean we should!
Be environmentally aware, responsible and sustainable. 8-)
